Two Are Better Than One!
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NASB) says, “9Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. 10For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. 11Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? 12And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.”
So many lessons can be derived from the book of Ecclesiastes, and another one would be the power of unity and agreement. Numbers will reflect power when they are unified! Others, they mean nothing! Here are the benefits of functioning in the unity:
- Reward – More can be accomplished when two have the same vision and working towards the same goal. This applies the same in marriage. ministry and business! God longs to give us the fruit of our labor.
- Companionship – The enemy functions in the realm of isolation and loneliness. When we fall and make mistakes, instead of being surrounded by people who bury us in our failures, we need to have those who encourage and exhort! These are not people who support what we did wrong, but rather be a positive influence by speaking the truth in love!
- Comfort – There is warmth, or comfort, when two are closer together instead of being divided.
- Defense – It is more difficult for the enemy to overcome someone when they are not fighting alone.
- Strength – A threefold cord is not easily broken. The more unity you have in Christ, the greater the strength to bind against the enemy and the works of darkness!
Jesus also resounded the truth of power in unity. Matthew 18:19-20 (NASB) says, “19“Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. 20“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” When we take this same unity and togetherness in prayer, it attracts the presence of God and the reward of answered prayer. A united prayer front allows God to be our defense and strength and gives access for the comfort of the Holy Spirit to guide us in prayer in accordance to the will of the Father. So, when you are doing life and going before God in prayer, always remember two is better than one!
