Chain Reaction
John 4:3-7, 25-30, 39-41 says, “He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. And he must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink…The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him…And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own word.”
Spiritually, God likes to work in the form of a “Chain Reaction”. Notice how Jesus said, “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 18:18) It is through a chain that you bind the works of the enemy. A good example of this would be this story in John 4 at Jacob’s well. Even though it appeared as though there was no connection with Jesus, who was a Jew, and the Samaritans of Samaria, there was a missing link through the woman at the well, who God would use to bring a revival to that land.
Jesus felt impressed in His Spirit to go through Samaria quickly because He had a divine appointment there. It was not by chance that He accidentally came across this Samaritan woman because from a distance He already saw something in her that no one else could ever see. To make a long story short, despite the facts that she was a Samaritan, which had nothing to do with Jews, already had five husbands, and that she was cohabited with another man, Christ revealed His Messiahship to her. She would drink of the well of living water, and she would never be the same again. She left her water pot and told everyone she saw in that city, “Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” (John 4:29) If Jesus would have never come in contact with this woman, two days of revival would have never occurred in Samaria. It was during this time that Jesus said, “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields: for they are white already to harvest.” The fields of Samaria were ready to harvest through the seeds that this woman at the well had planted into the lives of everyone she saw! They would have never met Jesus Christ if it was not for her.
You may feel rejected, like an outcast, bound and belittled by everyone else’s judgment, criticism and gossip, but God has a plan for your life. No matter what your past is like, it does not have to determine your future. The past of the woman at the well was quite rocky, but God had a purpose for her, and He fulfilled it. The last person anyone could ever see as ministering the revelation of Jesus Christ to a darkened generation was her, but she did, and many were led to him through her words. You are not the weakest link, but the missing link. You are exactly what God needs to birth a revival in a dry, barren city!
Each soul is critical and precious in the sight of God. You may think it is just a little conversation at a well, in a restaurant, at the check-out line in the grocery store, but it is a divine appointment God is giving you to shine the light of God to lead a lost soul to His feet. Think of any revivalist in our nation’s history, and even though they have done tremendous exploits for God and have won many souls to Christ, some “no named” person along the way witnessed to these ones while they were in sin that led them to Jesus Christ. That soul you are witnessing to might have a similar reputation to the woman at the well, but they could end up being another preacher, prayer warrior or prophet that will shake this nation. All God is doing is building a chain that would bind the works of our adversary. Will you be part of that chain reaction?
