The Day of Your Breakthrough
The moment that David was promoted to a higher position in the kingdom of God, the enemy tried to devise a trap for his life. He was anointed king over Israel, and the Philistines tried to find him, but David hid himself. The Philistines had encamped in the valley of Rephraim, which was known as the “Valley of Giants”. It was in this moment when David began to pray to God to see whether or not Israel should go up and fight against them, and that is when God said that He would “doubtless” deliver them into his hand. In other words, there was no doubt that they were going to win. They had the full assurance that they would come out of this battle as champions over their enemies! So, David and his army went up to fight against the Philistines, and they overcame them in that battle. He named that place, “Baalperazim”, which means a “breach of waters, breaking forth, breakthrough” (Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Definitions). Just as when waves break as they are crashing into the sandy beaches along the shoreline, God’s people were destined to break down this false religion! It signified that David was breaking Baal to pieces, which is why after they defeated the Philistines that they burned their idols and images of their false gods. It was a glorious victory for David and the people of Israel, and it shows us today that as long as God and the angelic hosts of heaven are on our side, we too can and will overcome!
While David may have been small in comparison to the Philistines, they were not afraid of these giants. In fact, they invaded their territory! They wanted to be led by the presence of God because they knew if God was leading them, they would not be defeated! In the same fashion, God wants to doubtlessly deliver us and give us the victory we so desparately need. We must be willing to seek after God and listen to His voice. He will never lead us down the wrong path. At some point in our lives, each of us will face a moment where we need a breakthrough from God, but that breakthrough does not come on the mountaintop, but it comes in the valley. The valley is where the giants whom we are facing die! It is the place where we obtain the breakthrough we need, smashing those idols that seek to control and destroy our lives. We are not to fall prey to the traps of the devil, but we are to be discerning through the Holy Spirit and fight the good fight of faith. We are not commissioned by God to lose but to obtain our breakthrough! If you want your breakthrough, get to the valley!
